Join us by investing your time in doing something that makes a world of difference to people with sight loss. Our Mobile Resource Centre is a small van which delivers information and equipment to visually impaired people. Your role will involve driving the van to various locations around the county and providing information on all aspects of visual impairment, including local services and leisure opportunities. You can give as much time as you want to suit you.

Our office is located at Suite 2.2 – 2.10, 2nd Floor, Litchurch Plaza, Litchurch Lane, Derby, DE24 8AA. Our opening hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm.

What you will do:

You will drive the van to events at specific locations in the county, set up and supervise a stand of equipment and leaflets, providing information and advice to visually impaired people. You may be asked to demonstrate aids or equipment.

The vehicle is stored in West Hallam and drivers will need to be able to get themselves to this location to collect and return the van.

Skills you need to have: A current driving licence is essential, good communication skills, the ability to demonstrate and explain the use of equipment, a good knowledge of Derbyshire, and the ability to work as a team.

Training and Support: We will give you visual impairment training and specific training for all the tasks. You will only go out on your own after your training and assessment. A member of staff will give you support throughout your training and will meet with you on a regular basis to see how things are going.

Expenses: We will reimburse your out of pocket expenses in line with our expenses policy.

Before you start: You will need to provide us with the names of two people who can give us a character reference for you.
