Volunteer Photographer

As an independent charity Sight Support Derbyshire needs to raise funds in order to provide services for blind and visually impaired people around the county.  Raising awareness of what we do is vital, and having up to date photographs helps us promote ourselves through our website, social media, and traditional media.

What you will do

Sight Support Derbyshire is seeking a volunteer photographer who can attend events and other photo opportunities on an ad hoc basis and help us keep our stock of photographs up to date.

You will need to have your own camera and equipment and insurance, and your own editing software. You will also need your own means of travelling to different locations. Although most of our events happen in Derby, sometimes there is a need to travel to different areas of the county.

Working to a brief, you will take photographs for use in the media, on social media, on our website and in leaflets and publications. We will need you to supply high and low resolution versions of the photographs as soon as requested.

This is a casual role which offers interesting and varied assignments.

Where

Locations throughout the county. You will need to attend our office for training, which is located at: Suite 2.2 – 2.10, 2nd Floor, Litchurch Plaza, Litchurch Lane, Derby, DE24 8AA. Our opening hours are Monday – Thursday 9am to 5pm.

When

As and when required, which could be weekdays, evenings or weekends, subject to your availability. Our main annual fundraising event is our Ey Up Mi Duck Race, which happens on a Saturday in May or June.

Skills Required

Excellent photographic skills, particularly photographing people. Media or commercial experience is desirable but not essential. Good communication skills.  Ability to follow a brief. Skills in video recording and editing would also be useful.

Training and Support

We will give you visual impairment training. A member of staff will give you a full briefing of the requirements of each job in advance.

Expenses

We will reimburse your out of pocket expenses in line with our expenses policy.

Before you start

You need to provide us with the names of two people who can provide a character reference for you.

This is an excellent opportunity to help enhance the quality of life for visually impaired people throughout Derbyshire.
