We are delighted that our Chair of Trustees, Martin Wilson, was recognised for his services to the community last month.
Martin was chosen to receive a ‘High Sheriff of Derbyshire Award’ in recognition of his dedication to volunteering for Sight Support Derbyshire, and other charities, over many years.
After retiring from 34 years at Rolls Royce, Martin joined Sight Support Derbyshire in 2003 as a volunteer driver of our Mobile Resource Centre van which toured Derbyshire bringing information and support into local communities. Since then, Martin has been involved in many aspects of Sight Support Derbyshire’s work including giving talks to community groups, taking part in collections and bag packing, exchanging collection boxes at shops, cafes etc across Derbyshire helping us to raise vital funds, not to mention helping to pack 5,000 newsletters into envelopes twice a year, ensuring our beneficiaries are kept up to date on the support available to them. In 2009 Martin cemented his dedication to helping local people affected by sight loss by joining the Board of Trustees, before becoming Chair in 2012, a position he has held ever since.
Martin was presented with his certificate by the outgoing High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Sir Richard FitzHerbert, accompanied by High Sheriff Cadet, Sgt Rosie Gill at the beautiful Tissington Hall in Derbyshire.
We are so grateful to Martin for his time, energy and commitment to Sight Support Derbyshire and are thrilled that this has been recognised through the High Sheriff of Derbyshire Award.
