‘Opening Doors’ Social & Leisure Project Worker: £10.43 per hour

Temporary one year post (possibility of ongoing work dependent on funding)

Sight Support Derbyshire has been awarded funding to re-develop and deliver a social activities service – ‘Opening Doors’. Following a ‘long pause’ during Covid, the service aims to relieve social isolation and improve the wellbeing of visually impaired people by providing a programme of face-to-face and on-line/teleconferencing activities.  We are looking for a Project Worker with passion, drive and enthusiasm to help us re-establish this important service and take the work forward.

The Project Worker will work with visually impaired people to develop a programme of social and leisure activities. This will include using local community venues such as cafes, community rooms, and to organise visits to places of interest. You will also support small groups of people to ‘meet’ either online or over the phone, helping those who cannot get out and about so easily.

Part of the operational team based in Derby and reporting to the Service Manager, you will need to be a ‘self-starter’ and able to work on your own initiative to ensure that services run smoothly and deliver the required outcomes.

At a time of big changes in both voluntary and statutory services we need people who can be flexible, adapt to change and bring a positive attitude to their work.

It is essential that you are a real ‘people person’ and can show compassion and understanding alongside a common sense approach to your work. Whilst it is desirable that you have experience in working with visually impaired people, it is not essential, as full training will be provided.

You will need access to a vehicle for work purposes and be able and willing to travel around the county. (Expenses will be paid in line with our policy.)

We can offer you a challenging and rewarding environment, and a competitive salary. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
