Have you ever thought about getting more involved with a local charity but not sure what becoming a Charity Trustee might involve?
Why not pop along to find out more about becoming a Trustee. (Both sessions will be the same, so you only need to come along to one of them.) Some of our current Trustees, along with our Chief Executive will be available to talk to about the work of the charity and about what it means to be a Trustee.
We are looking to recruit to our Board in 2025. People often ask what is involved in becoming a Charity Trustee, and so these drop-in events are an opportunity to find out more in a relaxed, ‘no-pressure’ event over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
There is no need to book a place, but it would help us gauge interest if you could let us know if you’re planning to come along. You can email or telephone the P.A to the Board, Heather Davidson:

Further information
Sight Support Derbyshire provides a wide range of sight loss services in Derbyshire. Most of these are delivered directly to blind and partially sighted people, others provide advice and support to families, carers, and other professionals. We also provide information to the wider public about good eye health, with the aim of reducing preventable sight loss.
As a Registered Charity (and a Company Limited by Guarantee) we are led and governed by our Board of Trustees. Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity’s resources are used for the purposes set out in our governing document (constitution).
We are currently looking to recruit Trustees to the Board. Meetings for Trustees are held six times per year at the SSD Head Offices in Derby and usually in the afternoons (2-4.00pm).
The main tasks of a Trustee are:
- To read the Board papers
- To attend the Board meetings and play an active role in decision making
- To maintain confidentiality on all issues
- To work as part of the Board in ensuring the continued success of the charity
Trustees are volunteers, but travel costs and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
We recognise that becoming a Trustee can be demanding but we believe that it is also enjoyable and worthwhile. Why not come along to find out more about the role and what the next steps are if you’d like to join our team.
