Giving in Memory
When a loved one dies, it’s comforting to remember all the happy times and celebrate their life.
One way to do this is to make a gift to charity in their memory, especially one which was close to their heart, or helped them. If you choose Sight Support Derbyshire, you will be bringing hope and practical support to people who have little or no sight.
There are several ways to do this. You may wish to make a personal donation, which you can do online through our ‘donate’ page or by contacting us.
Many people now choose to request donations in lieu of flowers at the funeral. Your Funeral Director will advise you on how to do this.
An online Tribute Fund can enable friends, family and colleagues near and far to make a donation. The simplest way to set one up is through Just Giving here.
However you make your gift, please let us know who you are remembering and your contact details so that we can thank you. You can do this through our Contact Us page.
You can choose to have a page in memory of your loved one in our Book of Remembrance, which is kept at our head office, and can also be viewed online. Please download and complete the Book of Remembrance form if you would like to include them.
Thank you for considering Sight Support Derbyshire, your kindness is greatly appreciated.
“Sight Support Derbyshire has been a real lifesaver – for me and my husband. You have helped him to focus on what he can do and helped him to access equipment and support.”
Leaving a legacy
Your Will is your gift for the future. It is a way to say thank you to family, friends and others who have supported you during your life. It is easy to put off making a Will, but now is always the right time to make sure those who matter most to you are taken care of. It is your opportunity to ensure your personal wishes are carried out.
If you are considering leaving a gift to charity, it won’t cost your anything now, but future generations will benefit. Legacy gifts make a real difference to the work that we can do at Sight Support Derbyshire, and account, on average, for over 7 per cent of our income each year. This is the equivalent cost of running our hospital advice service and our children and young people’s activities. We are extremely grateful for any legacies we receive.

Together with the RNIB and local sight loss charities across the country we have partnered with Bequeathed to offer a free online Will writing service, enabling you to make a free Will for Good from the comfort of your own home.
With Bequeathed there are just three simple steps to complete:
- Complete an online interview on the Bequeathed website
The questions asked help gather all the information required to make your Will. The website is fully accessible and the Bequeathed team are on hand to help if needed. This should take around 20 minutes - Get advice from an accredited legal firm
Bequeathed will arrange a 30 minute appointment for you with a legal firm. You can choose between a phone or video call from home, or visiting their office in person. They will discuss your situation and wishes and ensure the Will fully meets your needs. - Sign and witness your Will
You will be sent your Will which will need signing in front of witnesses and returning to the legal firm. They will check that all is in order and store your Will for free if you wish.
If your Will is more complicated you will be offered a quote as appropriate but you are under no obligation at all to proceed and there will be no cost to you for work already undertaken.

“Dad decided to leave a gift in his Will to Sight Support Derbyshire, as his way of saying ‘thank you’ for all the help he had received. It’s a comfort to me to know that through this gift, Dad is helping other people who are facing sight loss like he did.”
