Declutter and Donate with Ziffit and Virgin Money Giving!
Turn your unwanted books, CD’s, DVD’s and video games into cash for Sight Support Derbyshire!
Virgin Money Giving has teamed up with Ziffit, which enables you to get rid of your things at no cost to you, from the safety of your own home.
Here’s how to get started:
- Go to Ziffit.com or download the Ziffit app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store.
- With the app, use the scanner to scan the barcode for each of your items to see its trade value. With the Ziffit.com website, type in the numbers on the barcode to see the value of each item.
- When you’ve reached enough items to fill your basket, go to the checkout. This is when you will be asked to set up your account. When you’ve done this, select ‘donate’ at the checkout and enter ‘Sight Support Derbyshire’ in the search box for charities. You will see our name and logo come up. Complete the trade.
- Package up your items. These will either be collected free of charge by a courier from your home under socially-distanced conditions, or you can drop them off for free at a local collection point – Ziffit will advise you on what to do.
- Sit back and relax in the knowledge that your old books and other media are helping to fund our services for visually impaired adults and children.
Some things to bear in mind:
- Not all items will have a trade value – Ziffit will tell you this when you scan the barcode or type in the numbers in the code.
- All items have to be in excellent condition and suitable for resale – see the Ziffit terms and conditions when you log on or download the app.
- Games for PC’s, board games and devices are not included.

Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving, also known as Give As You Earn, is a HM Revenue & Customs scheme that enables employees to donate tax free through their pay to any charity in the UK. Over 10,000 employers in the UK operate the scheme.
It is one of the best ways to support us, because regular donations help to provide us with reliable income. This makes it easier for us to plan ahead with our services.
On each payday, an amount of your choice is deducted by your payroll department and sent to Sight Support Derbyshire. Your donations are taken before tax, meaning that for every £1 you give it will only cost you 80p (60p if you are a higher rate tax payer) – the taxman will pay the rest.
Click here to sign up online. Have your payroll or employer number, and your National Insurance number to hand. You will find them on your payslip. Alternatively, you can print off a copy and return it to us by post.
For employers, find out more at www.payrollgiving.co.uk

Giving in Memory
When a loved one dies, it’s comforting to remember all the happy times and celebrate their life.
One way to do this is to make a gift to charity in their memory, especially one which was close to their heart, or helped them. If you choose Sight Support Derbyshire, you will be bringing hope and practical support to people who have little or no sight.
There are several ways to do this. You may wish to make a personal donation, which you can do online through our ‘donate’ page or by contacting us.
Many people now choose to request donations in lieu of flowers at the funeral. Your Funeral Director will advise you on how to do this.
An online Tribute Fund can enable friends, family and colleagues near and far to make a donation. The simplest way to set one up is through Just Giving, by clicking here.
However you make your gift, please download and complete the Donations In Memory form, so we know who you are remembering, and can thank those who have made a contribution (we will not use their personal details for any other purpose).
You can choose to have a page in memory of your loved one in our Book of Remembrance, which is kept at our head office, and can also be viewed online. Please download and complete the Book of Remembrance form if you would like to include them.
Thank you for considering Sight Support Derbyshire, your kindness is greatly appreciated.
Testimonial:
“Sight Support Derbyshire has been a real lifesaver – for me and my husband. You have helped him to focus on what he can do and helped him to access equipment and support.”

Leaving a legacy
Your Will is your gift for the future. It is a way to say thank you to family, friends and others who have supported you during your life. It is easy to put off making a Will, but now is always the right time to make sure those who matter most to you are taken care of.
Who you decide to remember in your Will is entirely your choice. It is your opportunity to ensure your personal wishes are carried out. If you are considering leaving a gift to charity, it won’t cost you anything now, but will benefit future generations.
Legacy gifts make a real difference to the work that we can do at Sight Support Derbyshire, and account, on average, for over 7 per cent of our income each year. This is the equivalent cost of running our hospital advice service and our children and young people’s activities. We are extremely grateful for any legacies we receive.
Download our useful leaflet for information about how to make a Will, what to bear in mind when leaving a gift to a charity, and how leaving a legacy to Sight Support Derbyshire could help local blind and partially sighted adults and children.
Testimonial:
“Dad decided to leave a gift in his Will to Sight Support Derbyshire, as his way of saying ‘thank you’ for all the help he had received. It’s a comfort to me to know that through this gift, Dad is helping other people who are facing sight loss like he did.”

We can also let you have a collection box to use in your home.
