On your marks, get set, go! If you’ve ever wanted to run a marathon – but on your terms – now is your chance! This year’s London Marathon takes place as a virtual event on Sunday 4 October, and you can run, jog or walk the 26.2 mile distance.

New runners have from today to sign up, but you will have to be quick off the blocks to get a place. To make your marathon efforts worthwhile, raise money for Sight Support Derbyshire! As a small charity, places in the usual event are normally out of our reach, so this is a great opportunity for us as well as you!

Entering is easy. Click on the sign up button to take you to the London Marathon entry form (there is an entry fee of £20 which goes to the organisers). Then click on the JustGiving button to set up your fundraising page for Sight Support Derbyshire.

Participants have 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds to run, jog or walk the 26.2 mile distance, anytime from 00:00 to 23:59:59 BST on Sunday 4 October. A new app is being developed with Official Technology Partner TCS to enable participants to log their 26.2 miles and earn the unique finisher medal and New Balance finisher T-shirt.

On the same day, the 2020 marathon – now billed as The 40th Race – will feature elite races with the world’s greatest marathoners on a closed loop circuit around St James’s Park.

All the money raised will go towards our services to help blind and partially sighted people, who are more at risk of isolation than ever before as we adjust to living with the effects of Covid-19.
