If you have a sight loss condition, it can make everyday living difficult and frustrating. If your vision can’t be improved by prescription glasses, our Low Vision Service may be able to help.
Our Low Vision Assessor will visit you at home, to see how your condition is affecting your ability to do the things you have always enjoyed. If it will help, we can provide equipment like magnifiers to help you read your letters or a newspaper, or watch television, without straining your eyes. More lighting can also make a difference and we can provide this for you.
We can also help with more specific needs including reading signs at a distance, or household tasks such as sewing.
To be eligible for this service, you must have a GP who is registered in Derbyshire, be over 18 years of age, and have some residual vision. This means, for example, being able to see your fingers wiggling at arm’s length. Low vision services for children and young people are provided through the hospital.
“Having a magnifier to help me with my reading has been a godsend! It had got to the point where I couldn’t see the listings in my TV magazine, but now with better lighting and my new magnifier I can see when all of my favourite programmes are on.”
“The lady from Sight Support Derbyshire has been so kind and patient. She has shown me how to use the magnifier properly.”
