Visually Impaired audience members on a trip to Derby Theatre enjoy a tactile tour behind the scenes before the show

Losing your vision can affect your confidence, and you may find yourself feeling isolated. Our social activities mean you can get out and about while feeling safe and supported.

You’ll find yourself doing the things you’ve always enjoyed doing, as well as visiting new places and trying new things. We aim to inspire you to find new venues you can return to independently, and we always welcome new ideas of things to do.

Our Opening Doors programme, funded by the Postcode Community Trust, runs trips and events for people living in or near Matlock, Long Eaton and Derby.

We also run a number of social groups as part of our Big Lottery-funded North East Derbyshire Project, meeting in Chesterfield, Bolsover, Clay Cross, South Normanton, Dronfield and Shirebrook.

Regular swimming sessions take place on Monday mornings in Derby, and we also have a bowling group.

Trips which are open to all visually impaired adults in Derbyshire are advertised on our Events page.
